Construction is officially underway on AccessVet by Halifax Humane Society, a new community veterinary hospital designed to make high-quality care more accessible to pets and the people who love them.
Last week, more than 100 supporters and community leaders put on hard hats and stepped inside the future hospital for an early look at the progress. For the first time, guests could stand in the spaces where affordable veterinary care, healing, and hope will soon be provided to families throughout our community.
Inside The Future Hospital
Guests toured the area that will become the hospital’s surgical suite, where expanded operating space will increase community spay and neuter capacity by at least 30%.
They also walked through the future patient exam rooms, where families will be able to bring their pets for wellness visits, preventive care, treatment for illnesses and injuries, heartworm treatment, dentistry, and other essential veterinary services.
With every stage of construction, the landmark former Latitude Margaritaville Sales Center is moving closer to becoming a welcoming place where families can seek help for their pets with dignity and compassion.
Why AccessVet Matters
In Volusia County, 47% of households live below the basic cost of living or in poverty. Nationally, one in four Americans has faced a barrier to veterinary care within the past two years.
For many loving families, the cost or availability of veterinary services can mean delaying necessary treatment or facing the heartbreaking possibility of surrendering a pet. AccessVet is being created to help close that gap.
Building on Halifax Humane Society’s 14-year partnership with the ASPCA, the hospital will provide affordable, high-quality care ranging from spay and neuter surgery and preventive services to illness and injury treatment and compassionate end-of-life care.
AccessVet will also serve as a teaching hospital partner, helping train the next generation of compassionate veterinary professionals while expanding access to care in our community.
Turning A Vision Into a Lifeline
AccessVet is expected to open in early 2027. Every construction milestone brings us closer to a future in which more families can find the veterinary support they need to keep their pets healthy and at home.
This project has grown from an idea into a building because of the generosity and belief of our community. We are deeply grateful to every donor, partner, advocate, and supporter helping turn AccessVet into a lifeline for pets and families throughout Volusia County.

Naming opportunities remain available throughout the hospital, including mission-critical spaces such as the Main Surgery Suite and Radiology, as well as the Permanent Emergency Fund. The Welcome Lobby has already been claimed, marking an exciting step forward in the campaign.
