Where Pets And Families Thrive

For nearly 90 years, Halifax Humane Society has been a place where journeys begin.

Since 1937, we have worked to create a more compassionate community for pets and the people who love them. What began as a small humane society serving the Daytona Beach area has grown into one of the region’s leading animal welfare organizations, providing shelter, adoption, veterinary services, pet retention programs, humane education, and community support throughout Volusia County.

Today, our work extends far beyond the walls of a shelter. We believe every family deserves the opportunity to experience the unconditional love of a pet, and every pet deserves the chance to live a healthy, happy life in a loving home.

From Animal Shelter To Community Lifeline

For generations, Halifax Humane Society was best known as the place where lost, homeless, and neglected animals found safety and second chances.

While that mission remains at the heart of everything we do, the needs of pets and families have changed dramatically. Rising veterinary costs, housing challenges, and limited access to affordable pet care mean that more families need support before they ever reach a crisis.

Today, Halifax Humane Society provides lifesaving shelter and adoption services, affordable veterinary care, pet food assistance, behavior support, emergency housing resources, lost pet reunification services, and community-based programs designed to keep pets where they belong—with the people who love them.

Because sometimes the best way to save a pet’s life is to help a family keep their pet in the first place.

Championing pets. Empowering people.

Our mission is simple: To champion pets and empower their people.

We envision a world where all pets and people live their best lives together. That vision guides every adoption, every surgery, every reunion, every volunteer hour, and every act of kindness that takes place across our organization.

We believe animal welfare is strongest when communities work together. Through collaboration, innovation, and compassion, we are building solutions that improve the lives of both pets and people.

Building the future of animal welfare

As we approach our 90th anniversary, Halifax Humane Society is entering an exciting new chapter.

Through our Better Together Strategic Plan, we are investing in expanded access to affordable veterinary care, strengthening shelter programs, deepening community partnerships, supporting our team members, and building a sustainable future for the generations of pets and families still to come.

This vision includes the development of AccessVet, expanded community outreach programs, innovative lifesaving initiatives, and new ways to help families access the resources they need before a crisis occurs.

The future of animal welfare is not simply about sheltering animals. It is about creating a community where pets and people can thrive together.

Be Part of Our Story

Every adoption, donation, volunteer hour, sponsorship, and act of advocacy helps write the next chapter of Halifax Humane Society’s story.

Together, we are creating a future where more families stay whole, more pets receive the care they need, and more lives are changed for the better.
