WHAT IS DOLLY'S DREAM?
Pit bulls and pit bull-type dogs carry a reputation they didn’t earn. Stereotyped, abandoned, and surrendered at far higher rates than other dogs, these “blocky-headed” pups are often overlooked in shelters simply because of the way they look. Nationally, pit bull-type dogs make up roughly 40% of all dogs euthanized in shelters each year — not because of their behavior, but because of a story that isn’t true.
Dolly’s Dream exists to change that story. The program is named for Dolly, the first pit bull rescued by the founder of the Levitetz Family Foundation. Dolly’s sweet, loving personality dispelled every myth he’d heard about the breed and taught him the importance of adoption. In her honor, Dolly’s Dream now partners with humane societies and rescues across the country to rescue, rehome, and help restore the reputation of bully-breed dogs — including here at Halifax Humane Society.
Halifax Humane Society is proud to partner with the Levitetz Family Foundation to bring Dolly’s Dream to Volusia County, giving our blocky-headed dogs the extra support, visibility, and second chances they deserve.
Why This Program Matters
Dolly’s Dream is a natural extension of Halifax Humane Society’s mission to champion pets and empower their people.
