Expanding Access to Veterinary Care
Across our community, too many loving pet owners are facing an impossible choice: delay care, watch a pet suffer, or give them up simply because help feels out of reach. Nationally, 1 in 4 people has experienced a barrier to veterinary care in the last two years, and nearly 1 in 3 families couldn’t cover a $2,000 emergency expense without going into debt. Here in Volusia County, nearly half of all households live below the basic cost of living for our community — and rising veterinary costs and shrinking clinic capacity are pushing care even further out of reach.
Halifax Humane Society’s mission is to champion pets and empower their people, and our vision is a world where all pets and people live their best lives together. AccessVet brings that mission to life. It’s the centerpiece of “Veterinary care within reach,” the first priority in our 2026–2029 strategic plan, Better Together — our roadmap for expanding access to affordable, high-quality veterinary care so more pets can stay healthy and more families can stay together.
Transforming a Landmark into Lifesaving Care
Made possible by a generous estate gift, Halifax Humane Society is transforming the landmark former Latitude Margaritaville Sales Center in Daytona Beach into a state-of-the-art community veterinary hospital. AccessVet builds on our 14-year partnership with the ASPCA, through which we’ve already helped tens of thousands of pets through affordable, high-quality spay/neuter services — and it will also serve as a teaching hospital, helping train the next generation of compassionate veterinary professionals.
