Becoming a Volunteer with the Halifax Humane Society - Daytona Beach, Florida How To Get Started! Volunteers are a vital asset to the animals at HHS and make many of our programs possible. To become an HHS volunteer you must be 18 years of age or older, be willing to make a commitment of time and attend an "orientation" at our shelter. There are a variety of different programs available for each individual to choose from. We need plenty of cheerful volunteers to keep these programs active. Next Orientation Date If you feel that you would be interested in one or more of these programs, stop by our shelter to fill out an application. Once we receive your application we will inform you of your orientation date and time. Orientations last at least 2 hours. 	Adoption Lobby Tasks: Greet & direct people, answer phones, file, paperwork, making copies, assist adoptions, etc. Location: HHS Adoption Lobby Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, friendly, neat handwriting, computer skills.
	Receiving Lobby Tasks: Greet people, answer phones, file, paperwork, making copies, etc. Location: HHS Receiving Lobby Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, friendly, neat handwriting, computer skills.
	Office Help Tasks: Data entry, making phone calls, file, paperwork, making copies, etc. Location: HHS Administrative Offices Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, friendly, neat handwriting, accuracy, computer skills.
	Delivery Collections Tasks: Place & collect HHS money and/or food donations banks at area businesses. Deliver our newsletters to local nursing homes, libraries, veterinarian offices, etc. Location: Various locations around town. Qualifications: Ability to maintain chosen bank location(s) on a timely basis.
	Special Events Tasks: Planning and participating in special event and HHS fundraisers throughout the community. Location: Various locations. Qualifications: Dependability and ability to communicate effectively with the public.
	Pet Visitations Tasks: Prepare and take dogs and/or cats to visit nursing homes, hospitals, etc. This program only runs from October to April each year. Location: Shelter and designated locations in the community. Qualifications: Dependability and ability to commit to the entire run of the program.
	Kennel Assistant Tasks: Provide direct care to the animals in the adoption kennels and/or infirmary. Location: Adoption Lobby and/or infirmary. Qualifications: Assist with cleaning and feeding animals, laundry, bathing animals, monitoring animals, etc.
	Walk Socialize Dogs Tasks: Walk and socialize dogs in the adoption kennels. Location: Adoption Lobby. Qualifications: Need to be steady on your feet, patient, energetic and must attend one additional training session.
	Cat Socializer Tasks: Interact with cats in the adoption kennels. Location: Adoption Lobby. Qualifications: Ability to follow safety instructions, communicate effectively with the public and attend one additional training session.
	Maintenance Tasks: Assist in upkeep of shelter and/or grounds. Location: Shelter. Qualifications: Painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing or handyman experience a plus.
	Mailings Tasks: Assist with newsletter & fundraiser solicitations, i.e. folding, taping, sealing, stamping, etc. Location: Shelter or at home. Qualifications: Desire to see project through to completion.
	Off-site Adoptions Tasks: Prepare and take animals to off-site adoption locations such as PETsMART, Petco and community events. Location: Shelter and off-site location. Qualifications: Desire to see project through to completion.
	Veterinary Services Department Tasks: Monitoring patients after surgery, checking temperatures, cleaning, feeding, various other tasks. Location: On site medical department. Qualifications: Ability to get up & down fro the floor with ease, comfortable with dogs & cats, must be ok with seeing surgeries performed.
	Foster Care Program Tasks: Foster in your home infant and/or injured animals until a time that they can be placed in adoption. Location: Your home Qualifications: Ability to provide a clean, quiet and nurturing environment for the animals in your care.
	HHS Thrift Store Tasks: Sorting, cleaning, displaying, working the register, etc. Location: HHS Treasures & Boutique 2400 S. Ridgewood Ave./S. Daytona 386-322-7717 Qualifications: Dedication and desire
